The Devil Divides is a short way of naming one of Satan’s chief works.
He is the accuser of the brothers, the father of lies, and the one who sows weeds among the wheat.
From the garden onward he has split what God joined: man from God, brother from brother, truth from love.
Christ came to destroy the works of the devil and to make the two one.
The first recorded words of the serpent divided Eve from the word God had spoken. “Did God actually say?” opened a crack, and through that crack came shame, blame, and exile. Cain rose against Abel. Joseph’s brothers sold him. Israel split into two kingdoms. In the days of Jesus the adversary sought to sift Peter like wheat, and he entered Judas. Paul warned that Satan would outwit the church if they refused to forgive, and that false apostles were disguising themselves as servants of righteousness. James said that bitter jealousy and selfish ambition are earthly, unspiritual, demonic, and that where they exist there is disorder. The devil accuses day and night. He slanders. He whispers suspicion. He turns a needed correction into a wound and a difference of mind into a wall. The gospel answers him. Christ has broken down the dividing wall of hostility. He has made peace by the blood of His cross. The church is commanded to be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace—not a unity that denies truth, but a unity the accuser cannot fake and cannot finally destroy.

- He divides people from God’s word before he divides them from each other.
- Accusation, slander, and suspicion are his familiar tools.
- Jealousy, selfish ambition, and refusal to forgive give him room.

- Truth without love becomes a club. Love without truth becomes a lie. The devil will use either.
- Resist him, firm in the faith. Draw near to God, and he will flee.

- Accusation – He accuses the brothers before God and neighbor.
- Slander and Lies – He is a liar and the father of lies.
- Sowing Weeds – An enemy sows among the wheat while men sleep.
- Sifting – He asks to shake the saints and scatter their faith.
- Unforgiveness – A refused pardon becomes a foothold.
- False Teaching – Another gospel tears the body from its Head.
- Answer in Christ – One new man, one Spirit, one peace made by the blood.
- Genesis 3:1-5 – “Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, ‘Did God actually say, “You shall not eat of any tree in the garden”?’”

The devil divides.

Put away slander. Watch those who cause divisions contrary to the doctrine you were taught.
Christ Himself is our peace. He broke down the wall. He made one new man by the cross.
Submit to God. Resist the devil. Draw near to the Lord, and the divider will flee.
Maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. The Son of God appeared to destroy the works of the devil.
