Healing is the work of God by which He restores health, wholeness, and well-being to the body, mind, or spirit.
Scripture presents God as the ultimate Healer who both wounds and heals, and who has compassion on the suffering.
Healing appears throughout the Bible as a sign of God’s power, mercy, and kingdom, reaching its fullest expression in the ministry of Jesus.
While not every sickness is removed in this age, every believer can look to God for help, and complete healing is promised in the resurrection and the new creation.
From the earliest pages of Scripture, God reveals Himself as the One who heals. He is called Yahweh-Rapha — “the Lord who heals you.” Physical healing, emotional restoration, and spiritual renewal are all part of His redemptive concern. In the ministry of Jesus, healing the sick was a central demonstration that the kingdom of God had drawn near. The apostles continued to heal in Jesus’ name as a testimony to the risen Christ. At the same time, the Bible is honest about the ongoing reality of suffering and the fact that final, perfect healing awaits the age to come. Healing in the present is a gift of God’s mercy and a foretaste of the day when every tear will be wiped away and death itself will be destroyed.

Healing is a beautiful thread woven through the whole of Scripture. The God who created the body is able and willing to restore it, and the God who saves the soul is the same God who binds up the brokenhearted. In Jesus the kingdom of God drew near with tangible demonstrations of healing power and compassion. Yet the Bible also teaches us to trust God when healing is delayed or denied in this life, knowing that every believer will one day receive a glorified body beyond the reach of sickness and death. Until that day, we pray with faith, use the means God provides, and rest in the assurance that by the wounds of Christ we have been healed at the deepest level — and that the final, perfect healing is certain.
