Conviction of Sin is the Spirit’s work of making sin known as sin.
When He comes,
He will convict the world concerning sin
and righteousness and judgment: concerning sin,
because they do not believe in Me.
It is light in the conscience, not a mood you schedule.
David said,
My sin is ever before me,
after the word of the Lord found him.
Peter’s hearers were cut to the heart and said,
Brothers, what shall we do?
Jesus promised another Helper who would do what arguments alone cannot. The Spirit convicts the world of sin—chiefly the sin of unbelief in the Son—of righteousness, because Jesus goes to the Father, and of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged. Conviction is therefore more than regret that you were caught. It is agreement with God about the truth.
- Nathan said to David, You are the man. David said, I have sinned against the Lord. That is conviction.
- Cain was angry and downcast and would not master what crouched at the door. That is exposure without repentance.
- Paul said the law came in to increase the trespass so that sin might be shown to be sin. The commandment killed him, and then he learned to cry to the One who delivers.
- John said if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves.
Confession is conviction answered. The same Spirit who wounds to heal also bears witness that we are children of God. Conviction that never leads to Christ is only despair. Assurance that never passed through conviction is often presumption. The wound is a mercy if it drives you to the Advocate.

- Not the Accuser – The devil accuses to destroy. The Spirit convicts to save.

Do not run from the light. Do not live under the accuser after the Advocate has spoken. Let conviction drive you to Christ, then walk clean.
