Final Judgment is the day when the risen Christ judges the living and the dead.
Nothing hidden will stay hidden. Every person will give an account.
The Father has given all judgment to the Son.
For those in Christ the verdict of justification already stands;
for those who refuse Him the books will speak,
and the lake of fire is the second death.
Scripture does not treat history as an endless circle. It moves toward a throne.
- Abraham asked whether the Judge of all the earth would do what is just.
- The psalms say He comes to judge the world in righteousness.
- Jesus said that when the Son of Man comes in His glory He will sit on His glorious throne and separate the nations as a shepherd separates sheep from goats.
- He said the hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear His voice and come out,
- those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and
- those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.
- Paul told the Athenians that God has fixed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by a man He has appointed, and of this He has given assurance by raising Him from the dead.
- John saw a great white throne, and Him who sat on it.
- The dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.
- Another book was opened, the book of life.
- Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the last assize.
It settles every secret,
every injustice, and
every refusal of the gospel.
- Final judgment belongs to Jesus Christ, the appointed man and the Son of Man.
- It is public, personal, and according to truth.
- Works are brought into the light; they do not purchase salvation, but they testify.
- Those who believe have already passed from death to life, yet all will still appear before Christ.
- The book of life is the difference between the resurrection of life and the second death.
- Delay is patience, not cancellation. The day is fixed.
- The Judge is also the Savior who was judged in the place of His people.
- The Judge – The Father has given all judgment to the Son, that all may honor the Son.
- The Day – Fixed by God and assured by the resurrection.
- The Throne – The glorious throne of the Son of Man; the great white throne of Revelation.
- The Dead Raised – All who are in the tombs hear His voice.
- The Books – Deeds recorded; the book of life opened.
- The Separation – Sheep and goats, wheat and weeds, the righteous and the wicked.
- The Sentence – Eternal life or eternal punishment; the lake of fire is the second death.
- Acts 17:31 – “Because he has fixed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by a man whom he has appointed; and of this he has given assurance to all by raising him from the dead.”
- John 5:22-29 – “For the Father judges no one, but has given all judgment to the Son… Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.”
- Matthew 25:31-34, 46 – “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats… And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
- Revelation 20:11-15 – “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away… And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done… And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.”
- Romans 14:10-12 – “For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God… So then each of us will give an account of himself to God.”
- 2 Corinthians 5:10 – “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”

- Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14 – Thrones set, the Ancient of Days seated, the books opened; one like a son of man given dominion.

- Psalm 96:13 – “He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.”
- Genesis 18:25 – “Shall not the Judge of all the earth do what is just?”
- John 3:18-19 – “Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.”

- 1 Peter 4:5 – “But they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.”
- Matthew 10:15 – “It will be more bearable on the day of judgment for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah than for that town.”
God has fixed a day. He has appointed the Judge. He has given assurance by raising Him from the dead.
All who are in the tombs will hear the voice of the Son of Man.
The books will be opened. The book of life will be opened.
Do not take comfort in delay. Take comfort in Christ.
There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, and there is no hiding for those who refuse Him.
The Judge of all the earth will do what is just.
Today if you hear His voice, do not harden your heart. Call on the name of the Lord and be saved.
