The Teaching of Jesus is the word of the Son who spoke as no man ever spoke.
The crowds were astonished, for He taught them as one who had authority, and not as their scribes.
He opened His mouth on a mountain, in a boat, in the temple, on the road, and at a table.
Heaven and earth will pass away,
but My words will not pass away.
The church still sits under that voice.
Moses gave the Law.
His teaching is not a second opinion beside Scripture.
- He is the Word made flesh.
- He taught the kingdom of heaven as present and coming, the Father as holy and near, the Law as fulfilled and intensified, the heart as the true field of obedience.
- He taught in parables so that hearing ears would hear and hard ears would stay hard.
- He taught disciples in the house what He hid from the crowd in figures.
- He taught prayer, money, enemies, marriage, the Sabbath, the resurrection, and the day no one knows.
- He taught that the Son of Man must suffer and rise.
- He taught that the greatest commandment is love of God, and the second is like it.
The apostles did not replace His teaching. They were told to make disciples of all nations, teaching them to observe all that He commanded. The Spirit was promised to bring His words to remembrance.
A church that loves Jesus and neglects what He said has not heard Him yet.
- Authority is the first mark. He does not quote a chain of rabbis to prop up His yes.
- Kingdom is the first subject. Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
- Heart is the first target. Murder and anger, adultery and lust, oath and speech.
- Parable and plain speech both belong to Him. He chooses the form for the hearer.
- His words judge and save. They will not pass away.
- Listen to Him is the Father’s command on the mountain.
- Teaching them to observe is the church’s unfinished work.
- Authority – Not as the scribes; I say to you.
- Kingdom – At hand, hidden, growing, coming in power.
- Fulfillment – Not to abolish the Law and the Prophets but to fulfill.
- Parables – Secrets of the kingdom given and withheld.
- Discipleship – Follow Me; take up the cross; make disciples.
- The Father – Our Father; holy; giving; seeing in secret.
- The End – Watch; the Son of Man comes; My words remain.
