Jezebel was the Sidonian queen of Ahab who brought Baal into Samaria and hunted the prophets of the Lord.
She wrote letters in Ahab’s name so that Naboth would die for a vineyard.
Elijah stood against her house. Dogs ate her by the wall of Jezreel, as the word of the Lord had said.
In Revelation the risen Christ uses her name for a woman in Thyatira who taught His servants to eat food sacrificed to idols and to practice sexual immorality.
The history and the warning belong together.
Jezebel daughter of Ethbaal came from Sidon into the throne room of Israel. Ahab served Baal and built him a house in Samaria. Jezebel cut off the prophets of the Lord. Obadiah hid a hundred by fifties in caves. On Carmel the fire fell, and Elijah had the prophets of Baal seized. Jezebel swore by the gods to make Elijah’s life like theirs. He ran. She was not finished. When Naboth would not sell the inheritance of his fathers, she called a fast, seated scoundrels, and took the vineyard as if law had done it. The Lord sent Elijah again: in the place where dogs licked Naboth’s blood, they would lick Ahab’s; dogs would eat Jezebel. Years later Jehu had her thrown down. He trampled her. When they went to bury her, they found only skull, feet, and palms. This is Jezebel, the word said. In Thyatira a church that had love and service still tolerated a prophetess the Lord called Jezebel. He gave her time to repent. She refused. He promised a sickbed, tribulation for her lovers, and death for her children, that all the churches would know He searches mind and heart. The name is not a toy for labeling women we dislike. It is Scripture’s name for royal idolatry, weaponized religion, and teaching that baptizes immorality in the church.
- Jezebel’s power worked through a weak king, forged letters, and a rented piety.
- Baal and a stolen vineyard were one religion: the Lord does not own the land if the queen wants it.
- Elijah was afraid of her. The word still outlived her.
- Dogs and the wall of Jezreel were not chance. The prophet had already spoken.
- Revelation uses the name for tolerated teaching inside a working church.
- Time to repent was given. Refusal met the searcher of hearts.
- Hold fast. The churches are meant to learn from Thyatira.

- 1 Kings 21:25 – “There was none who sold himself to do what was evil in the sight of the Lord like Ahab, whom Jezebel his wife incited.”
She cut off the prophets of the Lord and wrote letters so that Naboth would die.
The dogs shall eat Jezebel within the walls of Jezreel. The word did not fail.
You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing My servants.
I gave her time to repent. She refuses.
All the churches will know that I am He who searches mind and heart.
Do not pin the name on every strong woman. Pin it where Scripture pins it: idolatry, stolen justice, and teaching that blesses sin in the church.
Hold fast what you have until He comes. What peace can there be while the sorceries remain?
