¶ Domain of Darkness
The Domain of Darkness is the jurisdiction from which the Father delivers His people.
Paul said He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son.
Domain means authority, a real claim, a real hold.
The gospel is not a mood-lift inside that realm. It is a change of kingdoms, purchased by redemption, the forgiveness of sins.
Colossians thanks the Father who has qualified the saints to share in the inheritance of the saints in light. Then it names the rescue. Delivered. Transferred. The language is political and legal as much as it is spiritual. Darkness here is not a feeling. It is a domain—an authority under which the dead in trespasses once lived, following the course of this world and the prince of the power of the air.
Jesus sent Paul to turn people from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God. That is the same move. No one emigrates by willpower. The Father delivers. The Son redeems. Sins are forgiven. The new address is the kingdom of the beloved Son.
The old domain still exists in this present age. Cosmic powers still work over this present darkness. They do not hold title to those who have been transferred. Citizenship has changed. The walk must match the papers.
- Domain is authority. Darkness had a legal-sounding grip, not only a gloomy mood.
- Deliverance and transfer are God’s acts. The dead do not relocate themselves.
- The destination is a Person’s kingdom: His beloved Son.
- Redemption and forgiveness are how the transfer is paid and sealed.
- Light is the inheritance; darkness was the old jurisdiction.
- The domain remains in the world. It does not remain over the saint as owner.
- Thanksgiving is the right first word after rescue.
