Knock is the third word of Jesus’ three-beat command.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
To the one who knocks it will be opened.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him and eat with him,
and he with Me.
Knocking is not a tap for luck.
It is a hand on a real door that someone must open

or a King who knocks and waits to be let in.
Ask is the spoken need. Seek is the hunt after the sentence. Knock is the hand that will not leave the wood.
- In Luke the watchful servants wait so they may open the door at once when the master comes and knocks.
- In Revelation the risen Christ stands at a church’s door and knocks—He wants in where He already bought the house.
- The unjust judge opened because the widow would not stop.
- The friend at midnight got up because of shameless persistence.
Doors in Scripture are gates of cities, flaps of tents, the veil of the holy place, and the will of a heart. Knocking therefore can be ours toward God, or His toward us. Either way the issue is the same: will the door open? The one who knocks finds it opened. The one who hears His voice and opens finds He comes in and eats.
A closed door after a knock is a decision, not an accident.
Take care how you hear includes take care whether you open.
- Knock is contact. Asking without knocking can stay in the air.
- It will be opened is a promise, not a guarantee that every latch yields to every demand.
- He knocks too. Some doors He will not kick in.
- At once is the posture of servants who kept the lamp burning.
