Seek is the second word of Jesus’ three-beat command.
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.
The one who seeks finds.
Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
Seek the Lord while He may be found.
He is not lost.
We are.
Seeking is the hunt of a heart that will not settle for a nod in His direction.
Ask is the spoken need. Seek is the movement after the sentence. The merchant sought fine pearls and then sold all for one. The woman swept the house until the coin was in her hand. The shepherd went after the sheep.
- Deuteronomy promised that if you seek the Lord with all your heart and all your soul, you will find Him.
- The psalms say those who seek the Lord lack no good thing, and that God looks down to see if there are any who seek after Him.
- Paul told Athens that He made the nations that they should seek God, in the hope that they might feel their way toward Him and find Him—yet He is actually not far from each one of us.
- Hebrews says He rewards those who seek Him.
- After the resurrection the women sought a body and were told He is not here.
Seek the things above, Paul writes, where Christ is seated. Seeking is therefore not a search for a hidden deity who enjoys hide-and-seek. It is turning the whole life toward the One who already came near, and refusing the substitutes that sit closer to hand.
- Seek is motion. Asking without seeking is a wish with no feet.
- You will find is a promise, not a dare to the desperate.
- First names the object: the kingdom and His righteousness.
- With all your heart is the measure. Partial seeking is how idols survive.
- He is not far. Distance is usually ours.
- Seek the Lord while He may be found is mercy with a clock.
- What you seek shapes what you become. Gentiles seek all these things. Disciples seek the reign.
- After Ask – Speech that becomes pursuit.
- The Object – The Lord, His face, His kingdom, His righteousness.
- The Promise – You will find; He rewards seekers.
- The Whole Heart – Not a side glance.
- While He May Be Found – An hour that should not be wasted.
- Things Above – Where Christ is, not where anxiety lives.
